Space for All: Expanding Access to Discovery


Advances in astronomy and physics data and collaboration norms are reshaping who gets to participate in discovery. Open data, inclusive training pathways, and collaborative infrastructure lower longstanding barriers to entry. As the field becomes increasingly data-driven, access to tools, training, and networks is as critical as access to telescopes themselves.

These shifts arrive at a pivotal moment for astronomy. As the Vera C. Rubin Observatory prepares to begin the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST), the global scientific community will gain unprecedented access to a vast, openly available dataset—enabling discovery across institutions, geographies, and career stages. LSST’s scale and openness have the potential to transform not only what we learn about the universe, but who gets to help answer its biggest questions.
