We are excited to announce a hands-on LINCC Frameworks Software Workshop and Hackathon taking place Sunday, July 27 and Monday, July 28, 2025, at NOIRLab in Tucson, Arizona, in conjunction with the Rubin Community Workshop 2025.
About the Event
This in-person two-day event is designed to empower astronomers and researchers with the skills and tools to fully leverage the LINCC Frameworks software ecosystem, developed to support scientific discovery with data from the Vera C. Rubin Observatory. Attendees will gain direct experience working with first data from Rubin (pending data availability), offering a unique and timely opportunity to prepare for the observatory’s data-rich era.
What to Expect
Participants will engage with members of the LINCC Frameworks software engineering and project scientist teams in a collaborative environment that combines learning, experimentation, and innovation. The event will include:
- Interactive tutorials on the LSDB and TDAstro software packages from LINCC Frameworks software team
- A mentored hackathon focused on real-world scientific use cases, using Rubin early science data products, supported by LINCC Frameworks staff
- Community-building and cross-disciplinary collaboration among scientists and developers
This workshop and hackathon represent a critical opportunity for the astronomical community to connect with cutting-edge infrastructure and prepare for the dynamic workflows that Rubin will enable
Who Should Attend
The event is open to astronomers of all experience levels, especially those interested in time-domain science, data-intensive research, and collaborative software development. Limited travel support is available.
How to Apply
Spots are limited—apply now for a space in this hands-on workshop and hackathon. We will begin reviewing applications on a rolling basis, and will close the application portal when we have accepted the maximum number of participants (no later than 11 July 2025). The review committee will balance experience level and software interest/scientific alignment with our mentors’ expertise; participants with science use cases utilizing the LSDB and TDAstro software tools will be prioritized, as well as those who submit an application by 26 May 2025. We will notify early applicants of their application status by 1 June 2025, so that participants can make travel arrangements.
