Rachel Mandelbaum’s research focus is on observational measurements in large sky surveys (such as weak gravitational lensing) that can shed light on the nature of dark matter and dark energy, the process of galaxy formation and evolution, and the nature of gravity on cosmological distance scales. In the past decade, she has held management and scientific leadership roles in the HSC survey collaboration and the Rubin Observatory LSST Dark Energy Science Collaboration (DESC). Recent interests include developing community software packages, like GalSim, and novel machine learning applications that work at scale on astrophysical datasets.
