- Over the next ten years, Rubin Observatory’s LSST will collect nearly 1,000 images of every star and galaxy in over half of the sky and compare each new image with existing images with 60 seconds! This amazing “motion picture” is only possible now, because of LSST’s 3.2-billion-pixel camera.
- Rubin Observatory will deliver broad access to its data to everyone in the US from scientists to the public, help train a new generation of students in AI-based data analysis and serve as a discovery machine for science from dark energy and dark matter, to exploding stars, to solar system formation, to hazardous asteroids.
- This data is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to develop and scale new algorithmic and software approaches in new ways, bringing astronomers together with software engineers and data scientists to innovate solutions.
